The Edmonton Oilers have a shot at clinching their second straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final with a win over the Dallas Stars tonight.

However, Dallas has been tough to beat on home ice, and my Oilers vs. Stars predictions have Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner in for a busy evening, with this Western Conference Final heading back north for a Game 6.

Find out more in my NHL picks for Thursday, May 29.

Puck drop is set for 8:00 p.m. ET at American Airlines Center in Dallas, with the game airing on Sportsnet and ESPN.

Who will win Oilers vs Stars Game 5?

The Stars have prevailed in 35 of their last 51 games at American Airlines Center, including seven of nine in the postseason. They've dominated special teams and own a +11 goal differential at home during the playoffs.

With Jake Oettinger sporting a solid .916 save percentage and 2.26 GAA on home ice, I’m backing the Stars to force a Game 6 back at Rogers Place.

Oilers vs Stars prediction

My Oilers vs Stars pick: Stuart Skinner Over 24.5 saves (-110 at BET99)

It was a roaring start to Game 4 for the Dallas Stars with 16 shots on 39 attempts in the first period, and I’d be shocked if a similar push wasn’t there again in Game 5 at the American Airlines Center.

The problem was the Edmonton Oilers held the Stars to just 13 shots on 32 attempts through the remainder of the game. I’m not anticipating the Dallas caving again with the season on the line, and especially with head coach Pete DeBoer also having the last-change advantage.

Of course, Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner has also flipped the script and shown up after a poor start to the postseason.

He’s allowed a goal or fewer in five of his past seven starts while posting an exceptional .941 save percentage, 1.55 GAA and registered 9.53 goals saved above expected.

While those numbers are likely to prove unsustainable in short order, I’m still anticipating the Stars putting enough pucks on net for Skinner to reach the 25-save mark. He’s turned away 25 or more in three straight games, after all, and this is a must-win game for Dallas.

Oilers vs Stars same-game parlay (SGP)

Stars moneyline

Stuart Skinner Over 24.5 saves

Jason Robertson Over 2.5 shots on goal

The Stars are 7-2 on home ice during the postseason with a plus-11 goal differential, 42.9 power-play percentage and 85.7 penalty-kill percentage. Dallas No. 1 goalie Jake Oettinger has also answered the call at American Airlines with a solid .916 save percentage and 2.26 GAA.

Additionally, while I’m still expecting him to stand tall, Skinner has a splash of statistical correction coming.

Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Dallas winger Jason Robertson has been a driving force with nine shots on 17 attempts the past two games. He’s also scored in two straight, so his go-to offensive role isn’t in danger, either.
